USDC in a Self-Custody Wallet: Safety, Chains and Yield

USDC is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle. Holding it yourself means two questions are yours to answer: which chain each balance sits on, because the same token on two networks is two separate balances, and who holds the keys, because a stablecoin held on an exchange is a claim on that exchange.

SpendTheBits keeps USDC under keys only your phone holds. You can move native USDC between chains through Circle's CCTP burn-and-mint rail rather than a wrapped copy, send it on chains where gas can be paid in USDC, and put idle USDC into vetted vaults where the yield is shown as observed, never promised.

  • Issuer: Circle.
  • Cross-chain: native burn-and-mint through Circle CCTP, not wrapped tokens.
  • Yield: observed rates from vetted vaults, each with a 0–100 Yield Safety Score.
  • Keys: generated and kept on your phone.
